Founding and Early Development

Jetson, the brainchild of Swedish entrepreneur Peter Ternström and drone-building engineer Tomasz Patan, was founded in 2017 and began with prototypes that, while basic, served as crucial testing platforms for various components.

Launch of Jetson One

After approximately four years of development, Jetson unveiled the Jetson One in October 2021. This vehicle, priced at €80,000, was not intended for urban commuting but rather for personal use and short-range travel. The Jetson One, which weighs 190 lbs (86 kg) and offers a flight time of 20 minutes per charge, complies with US regulations that exempt operators from needing a pilot’s license.

Technological Innovation

The standout feature of the Jetson One is its advanced software, which includes a Lidar sensor system and an auto-landing feature. This technology enables even novice pilots to learn to fly within minutes, democratizing access to personal flight.

Production and Regulatory Challenges

Initially, production was based in Poland, but in 2022, it shifted to Arezzo, Italy, where the company received approval to fly in uncontrolled airspace. Despite its success, the Jetson One faces regulatory ambiguities in the EU due to its unique classification.

Future Plans and Financial Growth

Looking forward, Jetson plans to expand its lineup with a two-seater model and, eventually, a four-seater version aimed at replacing the family car. In 2023, the company raised US$15 million to support these ambitions, signaling a strong trajectory for future growth and innovation.

Current Status and Outlook

As of now, Jetson’s entire 2022 production run is sold out, with orders being accepted for 2023. With the future models in the pipeline and ongoing technological advancements, Jetson is poised to remain a significant player in the personal aerial vehicle market.
